Proposed calendar changes for Technical Theatre courses
FPA 170
CURRENT ENTRY:
A basic introduction to technical theatre emphasizing lighting and sets,
and primarily intended for students in the Dance and Theatre programs.
The course will include actual production work, along with instruction
in practice and theory.
PROPOSED ENTRY:
A basic introduction to technical theatre emphasizing lighting and sets.
?
The course will include adtual production work, along with instruction in
practice and theory.
RATIONALE:
Although initially designed with students in the Dance and Theatre programs
in mind, FPA 170 is intended for and of interest to students in other areas
• ?
of the Centre and to students of other departments as well.
FPA 370
CURRENT ENTRY:
For students who have gained the basic knowledge of technical theatre.
?
Students will study various scenographic techniques and participate in
the realization of related aspects of production.
PROPOSED ENTRY:
For students who have gained the basic knowledge of technical theatre.
Students will study various scenographic techniques and be required
to solve theoretical problems related to aspects of production.
RATIONALE:
The original entry leaves the erroneous impression that there is a
component of FPA 370 tied to stage productions. This is no longer
the case since the introduction of the production courses, EPA 372
and 373.

Centre for the Arts Curriculum Committee
Proposed Prerequisite Change
1.
Re 200 level courses: (FPA 210, 212, 213, 214 and 215).
Present .
Calendar Entry: "Prerequisite: Any one of the following:
FPA 111,127,128,136,137,142,143,150,166,167"
Proposed Calendar Entry: "EPA 111, or one course from within the
Faculty of Arts qualifying as a Group A requirement (see
p.
56),
or any one of the following: FPA 127, 128, 136, 137, 140, 142,
143, 150, 166, 167".
Rationale: In revising the context courses and establishing the
desirable prerequisites for students in our programs, we may have
unintentionally tended to exclude students whose preparation for
these courses is adequate, even though it has been derived from
other disciplines. The inclusion among the prerequisites of courses
from the Faculty of Arts "Group A departments" - English, History,
Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, Philosophy, Humanities)
seems the cleanest way to rectify this oversight.
2.
Re 300 level courses: (FPA 310, 312, 313, 314, 315)
Present Calendar Entry: "Prere
q
uisites: 60 credit hours which must
include any one of EPA 210, 212, 213, 214 or 215 or any two of 111,
127,128,136, 137, 140, 142, 143, 150, 166 or 167 or equivalents."
Proposed Calendar Entry: "60 credit hours which must include 6 hours
from among the following: EPA 111,127, 128, 136, 137, 140, 142,
143, 150, 166, 167, 210, 212, 213, 214, 215, or courses from within
the Faculty of Arts qualifying as Group A requirements (see page 56.)
Rationale: The same as for the second year courses.
