studies). Combination of 'special topics' and 'directed studies' has led to a lot
of confusion. It is felt that the two titles should be separated into two courses.

RENAMING AND CHANGE OF DESCRIPTION OF KINESIOLOGY 850
Change from:
Kines 850-3 Selected Topics In Mammalian Bloenergetics
A study of selected aspects of the energetics of human
function, from the thermodynamics of digestive absorption
or cardio-vascular function to the energy metabolism of
muscle or brain.
to:
Kines 850-3 Cellular and Metabolic Control Systems
Molecular mechanisms of cellular control, and their
relationship to the integration of metabolism and
physiological function. The course will cover mechanisms
of hormone action, immunoregulation, carcinogenesis, and
the principles of metabolic control.
JUSTIFICATION
A few years ago regulation of metabolism was taught alternately
with Exercise Biochemistry under Kines 850. For the last three years
Exercise Biochemistry has been taught by John Wilkinson as Kinesiology
805 while Kinesiology 850 has been offered under the subtitle Cellular
and Metabolic Control Systems by Allan Davison. Now that Exercise
Biochemistry has been formalised as Kinesiology 810, it is requested
that Kinesiology 850 be renamed Cellular and Metabolic Control Systems.
JUSTIFICATION
The Kinesiology Graduate Program allows one
Kinesiology 805 as 'directed studies'. At present
the title of Kinesiology 805 is Special Topics.
It is requested that it be changed to Kinesiology 805-3
Directed Studies. The Kinesiology Graduate Studies
Committee would like Special Topics to be given a. separate .
number, Kinesiology 806-3. Special Topics are generally
covered either by visiting faculty members or tenure track
