The Senate Appeals Board held the following meetings during
the period January - December
1983.

As can be seen from the attached table, attendance has been good
in spite of the number of meetings, their length and the need to
hold meetings during semester break and first week of classes.
Most meetings dealing with
8
or more cases occupied a full work-
ing day. During
1983,
S.A.B. allowed 20 minutes per case, but
frequently found that this was not enough, particularly in the
case of retroactive withdrawals.
The number of appeals appears to be increasing. This might re-
suit from tightening of admission requirements, shorter drop dates
and more stringent continuance requirements. It might also reflect
the increasing anxiety of students striving to maintain cumulative
grade point averages that will be high enough to permit entry to
limited enrolmentprograms or to graduate programs. The Board
sees no lessening of these pressures in the near future.
