I attach the graduate calendar entry (MPM Program) as
recommended by the MPH Faculty and subsequently as revised and
approved at a DCSC meeting 29 June 1982. If approved by the
Department, the MPM Calendar enty would read as the attached
Section 6.2 indicates.
Faculty may note the following changes from the existing
1
82-83 calendar entry:
Under Admission Requirements
1)
courses or their equivalents which applicants should have
18 hrs credit
in
their backgrounds have been partly grouped
so that instruction in each of
5 2MUect
areas is necessary.
It was possible under the existing entry for applicants to
meet the requirement by haying instruction equivalent to
BISC 304, 317, 404, 407, 408 and 417, for example, without
any instruction in pathology or pesticides.
2)
applicants lacking Instruction in three
or less
of the subject
areas may be recommended now for clear admission if they
otherwise satisfy the minimum
University
requirements (Section
1.3.2) Applicants lacking instruction
in more
than thre of
the subject areas may be recommended for admission as Qualifying
students even though
their
CGPA meets or exceeds the minimum
University standard.
These changes are consistent with
recent
practice of recommend-
ing on the admission of MPH students with deficiencies in their
background.

Under Program Requirements
There are no changes in the total number of credits required
for the MPM degree.. However, the proposed change in the 18
credit hour component would now facilitate an MPM student
taking up to 1/3 (6 credits) of course work in topics out-
side this list - eg. a full-year course at UBC, or courses
from other Departments or programs at SFU subject to approval
as indicated.
The comprehensive examination has been dropped, as in practice
it was never done.
Titles of the courses BISC 603 and
604 have been changed.
