REPORT TO SENATE OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE EXECUTIVE

SENATE GRADUATE
STUDIES COMITTEE FROM JANUARY 1983 TO DECEMBER 1983:-
Number of Meetings - Eight
The Executive Comittee acted with delegated power from the Senate Graduate Studies
Camtittee to:-
APPROVE:
1. Recommendations for the award of graduate degrees in 1983: 226 graduate
degrees were awarded.

2. Reccrnendations for Admission involving substantial doubt. There were five
recommendations considered; two were approved, one rejected and two referred
back to the Departments.
3.
New graduate courses. There were 19 new courses approved; two in Education,
three in Marine Science, two in History, two in Corrrnunications, three in
Chemistry, three in Mathematics and four in Natural Resources Managnt.
There were ten (10) graduate courses deleted; three in Business Administration,
two in History, two in Communications and three in Chemistry.
4.
Graduate Curriculum Changes in the Faculty of Business Administration; in the
Departments of Economics, History, Communications, Computing Science, Kinesiology,
Chemistry, Mathematics, Criminology and Natural Resources Management.
5.
No new programmes approved.
6.
Approval of changes in the General Regulations - Graduate Studies.
Authority delegated to the Dean of Graduate Studies by the Executive Carrnittee of the
Senate Graduate Studies Committee:-
APPROVE:
1. Recommendations for Admission meeting University requirements.

2. Recommendations to approve credit for courses taken at another institution.
3. Recommendations to complete courses at another institution for credit at SFU
