I shall introduce the following notion at the next meeting of the
S.C,.S.C.:
Motion
The Director of Natural Resources Management Programme, as de facto
Chairman of the Graduate Programme Corrrnittee, be a voting member of
the Senate Graduate Studies Coirrnittee.
Rationale
The terms of reference of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee specify
membership to include the Chairman of each Departmental Graduate Programme
Carimittee. * The M. R.M. Progranire differs from other graduate programmes
in that it is not part of another department or departments who are
represented on the S.G.S.C. Furthermore, M.R.M. now has over 40 graduate
students and seven full or part-time faculty. Hence, it is a major
graduate programme, but is unrepresented on the
S.G.S.C.
In my opinion, it is inappropriate for such a large graduate programme
to remain unrepresented on the S.G.S.C. and I strongly endorse the Faculty's
request for this matter to be considered.
*The exception is that the Faculties of Education and Business
Administration are entitled to two representatives elected by and
from their Faculty Graduate Studies Committees.
