To: Senate
?
From:Senate Committee
on Agenda and Rules
Subject:Notice of Motion -
?
Date:October 20, 1986
Senate, October 6, 1986
.
At the meeting of Senate held on October 6, 1986, the following
Notice of Motion was duly presented:
Motion: "that Senate consider as policy the position
that there can be no two successive cancellations of
Senate's monthly meetings".
The effect of this motion, if passed, would be a change to the Rules of
Senate. Current Section V., A., 3. of the
Rules
of Senate
addresses
the question of cancellation of a Regular Meeting of Senate, setting
out the following:
3. If in the opinion of the Chairman, there is
insufficient business to justify a regular meeting, he
may cancel the meeting and instruct the Secretary
to so inform the members.
Under the
Rules of Senate,
an affirmative vote by two-thirds of the
voting members present is required to carry a motion that would
change those
Rules.
