The Faculty of Business Administration's Undergraduate Curriculum
Committee approved the following motions at its meeting of October
28, 1985.
1.
Management Science and Information Systems
"That Bus 336 be included in the core course requirements for
all business majors, including joint majors, and
That Bus 336 be changed from 5 credits to 4 credits."
Rationale
.
?
An introductory management science course is a general require-
ment within most leading business schools throughout North
America. Bus 336 provides strong emphasis on application and
relates model building to all areas of business.
The component of this course covering analysis of advanced
systems will be eliminated in the proposed change from 5
to 4 credits.
2. Marketing
"That the course titles for Bus 442 and Bus 445 be changed
to Introduction to Marketing Research and Analysis of Data
for Management, and
That Bus 442 be removed as a prerequisite for Bus 445, and
That the course description for Bus 445 be altered to read
as follows:
The analysis and interpretation of data, particularly
multivariate data. This course is complementary to
Bus 442 but may be taken independently. Applications
in Management Science and Information Systems, Organi-
zational Behaviour and other areas as well as in
Marketing will be examined"

-2-
Rationale
Bus. 445 as re-written will provide for a broadening of
applications and examples to include the analysis of data for
non-marketing business areas. Experience has suggested that
students can handle Bus. 445 without having done Bus. 442.
3. Finance
"That the course number for Bus. 415 be changed to Bus. 315
with the vector changing from (2-2-0) to (3-1-0). This also
necessitates changing the prerequisite for Bus. 413 to Bus. 315
rather than Bus. 415."
Rationale
The change of number more accurately reflects the fact that
this is the introductory course in the investment field; an
advanced course is currently being offered on an experimental
basis as a 400-level selected topics number. Previous enroll-
ment limitations can be removed, given the Bus. 315 lecture/
tutorial format, easing a serious student log jam.
4.
Accounting
"That Bus. 422, Seminar in Accounting, be added to the curriculum.
Prerequisites: 90 credit hours; permission of the Faculty."
Rationale
A vehicle for advanced course work reflecting student demand
in areas not covered by existing courses and reflecting strengths
of permanent and visiting faculty is seen as necessary.
