Preamble
We are pleased to report to Senate with regard to the S.F.U. Open
Undergraduate Scholarship Program and the President's Secondary
School Entrance Scholarship Program.
We have provided terms of reference and statistical information
on these programs.
?
A summary of the entire entrance scholarship
program is also included, such that Senate will be able to place
the President's Entrance Scholarships in the context of the
lEñnce Scholarship Program.
There are no recommendations we wish to make at this time with
regard to either program, although we are currently planning our
annual review of the entrance scholarship program, especially with
respect to recruitment initiatives.

S.F.U. Open Undergraduate Scholarship Program
A) Terms of Reference
The intent of the new program is to identify highly qualified
students and to award scholarships to these students through
an adjudication process. The program is designed such that
tenure of the scholarships awarded will normally fall within an
annual framework.
1.
To qualify for the first time, students will be required
to have completed at least 30 credit hours at S.F.U.
2.
The main adjudication for scholarships will occur once
per year, normally late in August, subject to the
qualifications in (4) below.
3.
Tenure of scholarship will be for 3 semesters beginning in
September. The value of the scholarship will be equal to
the tuition actually paid by the student in these semesters.
A minimum CPA will be established annually to determine
eligibility of students to apply for a scholarship and to
continue receiving disbursements during tenure of the
scholarship. However, no student who has a cumulative
CPA of less than 3.5, will be considered eligible for the
scholarship. Normally the required cumulative CPA will
exceed 3.5.
4.
Those students who do not normally qualify for the August
adjudication will be eligible to apply for scholarships in
the other two semesters. The tenure of these scholarships
will be adjusted to bring the scholarship program of these
students "into phase" with the scholarship program (as in
#3 above).
5.
The committee will give consideration to the following
guideline: "the committee will take into account the nature
of the student's courseload in its adjudications of undergraduate
scholarships."

-3-
6.
The monetary value of these scholarships will include
actual tuition costs accrued in the scholarship recipient's
fee account, to the end of the 5th week of classes. Following
this date, scholarship funds will be transferred into the
respective recipients' fee accounts. Calculation of the
monetary value of the scholarship will exclude student fees,
athletic fees, or other service fees.
7.
PDP students in EDUC. 401/402, EDUC. 405, or their equivalent,
may be eligible for scholarship on the basis of nominations
submitted by the Faculty of Education.
