The Faculty of Arts Curriculum Committee at its meeting of March 6, 1986
approved a request to change the prerequisite for BUEC 397 - Government and
Business (see attached). As this is a BUEC course, the signatures of
both Deans are on the form and the Department and the Faculties have
approved the changes.
Would you please place this change on the agenda of the next S.C.U.S.
meeting.
Thank you.

With the exception of BUEC 397, the prerequisites for
our three and four hundred level courses are ECON 200
(Microeconomics) and ECON 205 (Macroeconomics).
The department believes the BUEC 397 prerequisite to be
anomalous, and that its prerequisites should be ECON 200
and ECON 205.

This is in response to your March 6th memo to me, "Change of Prerequisite
- BUEC 397".
The Faculty of Business Administration's Undergraduate Curriculum Committee
at its meeting on March 24th took the following action:
It agreed with the prerequisite change in BUEC 397, "Government
and Business", proposed by the Economics, Department, namely the
change from "Economics 200; 60 hours" to "Economics 200 and 205;
60 hours". It therefore will join with the Faculty of Arts
Curriculum Committee in forwarding that change to Senate.
Its rationale for the decision was:
(a)
agreement with Economics' apparent general belief that
third and fourth year courses with significant Economics
content should require introductory macroeconomics in
addition to introductory microeconomics as a prerequisite.
(b)
a belief that some prior exposure to macroeconomics would
be useful to students taking this particular course.
