Action taken
The following actions were taken leading to subsequent approval by
Senate:
Changes in Admission and Transfer Credit Requirements for International
Baccalaureate Students
Established clearer criteria for admission and transfer credits for full
program and introduced transfer credit for partial higher level certificates.
Appeals Procedures for Proposed International Student Quota to Limited
Enrolment Programs
Senate Appeals Board to hear appeals only if applicant is denied admission
to the University. Those denied admission to a limited enrolment program
must appeal to the respective Faculty or Department.
PEP Transfer Credits
PEP students enrolled prior to April 1984, permitted to transfer up to
90 credit hours towards B.A.
The following matter was 3rought before Senate but referred to legal counsel.
ESL Testing and Remedial Program

Proposal to extend program to those Permanent Residents (Landed Immigrants)
for whom TOEFL was a condition of admission.

Courses Available for Course Challenge
The list of courses available for course challenge was revised.
Transfer Credit

Courses
Two-year trial basis established for selected courses offered at
Alpha College.
International Student Quota for 84-85
Numerical, quota established in accordance with Senate's limit of
7% of new admissions.
Admission from B. C. Grade 12 Adult Program
Students seeking admission from B. C. Grade 12 Adult Program will
only be admitted on exceptional basis at discretion of Director of
Admissions.
End of Semester Reviews
SUAB reviewed individually the Permanent Records of all students who
were required to withdraw from the University under a variety of
categories. The totals by category were as shown in the table below:

Other Discussion
The following topics were discussed:
Admission requirements from B.C. Grade 12
The Board discussed the predicted effects of the Ministry of Education's
proposals to change graduation requirements set out in the paper
Graduation '87. A sub-committee was formed to make recommendations
on entrance requirements from B. C. Grade 12. The sub-committee met in
1984 but reported to SUAB in the following year.
Provincial Examination
The exams were re-introduced in 1984. The Board discussed the use of
exam results in the admission process and the reliability and validity
of the examinations.
Transfer Credit Request-New Summits College
Response to a request that transfer credit be granted for certain courses
was postponed pending receipt of further information.
