From:
Students may not register in an Upper Division course in any
given
field unless they have completed a Lower Division course
in that field.
To: Students may not register in an Upper Division course in any
given field unless they have completed a Lower Division course
in that. field. In the case of Selected Topics courses, topics and
prerequisites for each offering will be announced by the
Department at least one semester in advance. The specified
prerequisites or departmental permission are required for
entry into the course.
Rationale:
The
Department.
of Political Science has found that the current
practice of stating no prerequisites, except for one course from
the relevant field, is counter-productive in the case of Selected
Topics courses. Some offerings clearly require a specialized
background, and the Department wishes to be able to specify
this to students at the time
of
preregistration. Furthermore,
selected topics courses require special prerequisites that cannot
be specified in advance.
