Action undertaken by the Senate Committee on Academic Planning at its meeting of 

February 18, 1985 and the Senate Graduate Studies Committee at its meeting of 

December 18, 1984 gives rise to the following motions:

MOTION 1: "That Senate approve and recommend approval to the Board of 

Governors, as set forth in S.85-11 , that the M.A. and Ph.D. 

Programs in Russian be discontinued." 

MOTION 2: "That Senate approve and recommend approval to the Board of 

Governors, as set forth in S.8541 , that all existing graduate 

courses in Russian be discontinued as of August 31, 1985." 

Note: The following courses will be eliminated: 

RUSS 800-4, RUSS 801-4, RUSS 802-4, RUSS 803-4, RUSS 804-4, 

RUSS 805-4, RUSS 806-4, RUSS 807-4, RUSS 808-4, RUSS 809-4, 

RUSS 810-4, RUSS 898 M.A. Thesis, RUSS 899 Ph.D. Thesis 

GERMAN 

MOTION 3: "That Senate approve and recommend approval to the Board of

MOTION 4: "That Senate approve and recommend approval to the Board of 

Governors, as set forth in S.85-11 , that all existing graduate

PH.D. PROGRAMS IN RUSSIAN AND GERMAN 

Following the review by PACUP and the President's proposals in September, 1984, 

the Dean of Arts in response to instruction from me placed a number of motions 

before the Faculty of Arts Graduate Studies Committee relative to the discontinuation 

of M.A. and Ph.D. Programs in Russian and German. ? 

These motions were approved? 

at a meeting of the Faculty Committee on December 6, 1984 (see attachment A) and 

were later approved by the Senate Committee on Graduate Studies at its meeting 

of December 18, 1984 (see attachment B) 

It is therefore my intention to place before SCAP the following motions for 

consideration: 

MOTION 1: "That the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in German be discontinued." 

MOTION 2: "That the M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Russian be discontinued." 

Note: 1. At present there are no students in either program. 

2.

No new students will be admitted to either program. 

3.

It is understood that there may be a restructured 

DLLL. ? 

Proposals regarding structure could come 

forward later for consideration. 

MOTION 3: "That all existing graduate courses in German be discontinued as 

of August 31, 1985."

The Faculty of Arts Graduate Studies Committee at its meeting of 

December 6, 1984, passed the following motions presented to it by the Dean, 

acting on the instructions of the Academic Vice-President: 

Motion 1. That the Faculty of Arts Graduate Studies Committee 

accepts the proposal that the M.A. and Ph.D. programs 

in

German be discontinued. 

Motion 2. That the Faculty of Arts Graduate Studies Committee 

accepts the proposal that the M.A. and Ph.D. programs 

in

Russian be discontinued. 

Note: 1. At present there are no students in either 

program. 

2.

No new students will be admitted to either
