Please put this proposed change to the Calendar before the appropriate
committee.
Change of Prerequisites:
From: ?
ENGL 371-
1
4 ADVANCED COMPOSITION: THEORY AND PRACTICE
The study of expository writing which examines theoretical
approaches to composition and relates these to the practice,
analysis and improvement of the student's writing.
Prerequisite: As for all upper division courses in English
To: ?
ENGL 371-4 ADVANCED COMPOSITION: THEORY AND PRACTICE
The study of expository writing which examines theoretical
approaches to composition and relates these to the practice.,
analysis and improvement of the student's writing.
General Prerequisite:
ENGL 210 or permission of the Department
Rationale: When English 371 was constituted and its prerequisites set,
English 210 did not exist. Over the past two years there has
been an increasing problem with students who have the minimal
requirements for upper division courses registering English 371
even though they are not ready for an advanced composition course.
The change indicated above, which adds the 200 level composition
course to the prerequisites for ENGL 371, is designed to address
this problem.
If this change is acceptable to the Faculty and the Senate, the Department of
English requests that the new requirements go into effect in 1988-3.
