This course analyzes the foundations and

attributes of modern Canadian society, using an interdisciplinary
approach. ?
As an introduction to Canadian Studies, the major themes of
the course are social conflict and social change. Topics include
French-English relations, Canada and the United States, ethnicity and
multiculturalism, industrialism, regional conflict, social movements,
nationalism and Canada's social structure, classes and elites.
Rationale: The proposed course description is a fuller and more
accurate account of the course content thereby enabling students to
understand the relation of this course to the CN.S. 200-level courses and
to courses in other departments.
