MEMORANDUM
DEAN OF GRADUATE STUDIES
TO: ?

FROM: B.P. Clayman
Committee
SUBJECT: ?
"On Leave" Status
?
DATE: 23 September 1988
I have been asked for a clarification of the criteria for a
student registering "on-leave" (regulation 1.8.4). It has always
been my understanding that both items a) and b) in the regulation
must be true for a student to register "on-leave"; that is, the
student must interrupt the graduate work and must not make
substantial use of S.F.U. facilities. This seems to me the most
logical interpretation of the regulation, taken as a whole and a
proper definition of "on-leave" status.
I therefore propose to add the conjunction "and" so that
items a) and b) would read:
a)
When a situation arises which makes it necessary or
desirable to interrupt the work, and
b)
When no substantial use will be made of university
facilities.
This matter will be on the agenda of the next meeting of the
S.G.S.C. Please bring forward this memorandum.
