A Proposal for a new Joint Major in Business and Political Science
Rationale
Any student interested in public sector management/public policy
analysis and business-government relations has the option of pursuing
,
a double major in 'Political Science and Business Administration.
However, the two majors require a student to satisfy all requirements
for a major in each department/faculty. Given the interrelationships
between the subject matter taught in certain Political Science and
Business courses however, the two majors unnecessarily duplicate the
requirements imposed on interested students. On grounds of
efficiency, it seems worthwhile to permit a joint major. The joint
major would eliminate some requirements of the Faculty of Business
Administration and the Department of Political Science and permit the
student to concentrate on disciplinary studies. The Political Science
requirements of the proposed joint major are also consistent with
other joint programs of Political Science and other disciplines and
will ensure appropriate breadth requirements in the Political Science,
discipline. It is expected that the number of students involved in
the program would be small but it would have particular application to
those interested in Business and Government. A student having this
proposed joint major would probably have better employment
opportunities in public sector and business settings requiring a
• background in Politics and Government than would a student having only
a B.B.A. or a B.A. in Political Science.
