CRIM 462-15 COURSE DESCRIPTION
CURRENT: CRIM 462-15 Field Practice
Supervised three month field practicum in selected
criminal justice agencies. Students are required
to complete a series of reports addressing
theoretical and practical issues relating to their
placement as well as to attend regular feedback
seminar discussions with faculty supervisors and
other field practicum students.
Prerequisite: Prior approval of the school and a
minimum CGPA of 2.5 is required. Applicants must
be formal Criminology majors or honors students,
and must be registered in or have completed CRIM
320 and CRIM 369.
?
A minimum grade of B in CRIM ?
369-4 is required.

?

369-4 is required."
RATIONALE: The requirement of at least a "B" standing in
CRIM 369 is inconsistent with other requirements
of the Criminology Undergraduate Program; for
example, a CGPA of 2.25 is required for those
applying for admission to Major/Minor/Honors in
Criminology. The original requirement was that
Field Practice students should receive a grade, in
the "B" range (B-, B or B+), rather than B 'or
• higher. We therefore request that this anomaly in
?
the calendar description be accepted as amended.

RE: CALENDAR CHANGES 89/90

1. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: HONORS/MAJOR IN CRIMINOLOGY
CURRENT: Refer to the list (p. 76) of 11 courses in
Psychology that may be applied in partial fulfillment of the
program requirements under Group B, Upper Division.
PROPOSED: To add PSYC 357-3 (Psychology of Adulthood and
Aging) to the current list of courses in Group B, Upper
Division.. ?
-
The Calendar Description for PSYC 357-3 is as follows: -.
Considers human development from young adulthood to old age.
Included are theories of adult development and aging;
environmental and biological factors in aging; and the
effects of aging on sensation, perception, cognition,
personality, psychopathology, and social relations.
(Lecture/Laboratory)
Prerequisite: PSYC 101.
RATIONALE: PSYC 351-3 (Child Psychology) and PSYC 355-3
(Psychology of Adolescence and Youth) are already "Upper
Divison Group B" options for Majors/Honors in Criminology.
We continually receive requests from our students for

i
?
.
special permission to take PSYC 357-3. The course s
certainly relevant for our students, and we would like to
include it as an option for them.
2.
CALENDAR CHANGE 89/90: NOTATION FOR CRIM 369-4
CURRENT: CRIM 369-4 (Professional Ethics and Interpersonal
Skills in Criminal Justice) is currently marked with a
double asterix (**), with the corresponding note indicating
that CRIM 369-4 is a prerequisite for CRIM 462-15 (Field
Practice).
PROPOSED: To mark CRIM 369-4 with something other than an
asterix, or to add to the
"**Note"
the following
clarification: "Neither CRIM 369-4 nor CRIM 462-15 are
required for graduation with a Major/Honors in Criminology".
RATIONALE: This point was brought to the attention of the
School's Undergraduate Curriculum Committee by the student
representative. Many of our students appear to be uncertain
if CRIM 369-4 is reauired for a Major/Honors in Criminology.
It is not a required course, and it would be helpful if this
was indicated explicitly in the Calendar Description.
3.
CALENDAR CHANGE 89/90: ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN
CRIMINOLOGY
CURRENT: The Note for Program Requirements (p. 78) is:
"Students who have not previously completed a criminology
certificate or diploma are
required
to take CRIM 101 and
CRIM 131".
PROPOSED: Note: "Students who have not completed a
criminology certificate or diploma are
required
to take CRIM
101 and CRIM 131, and obtain a mimimum grade of C- in each."
RATIONALE: This amendment would achieve a measure of
uniformity and preparedness for students taking our courses.
The C- requirement was established for Criminology Minors
and Certificate students in Criminology. Unfortunately, this
earlier amendment neglected to mention the Advanced
Certificate in Criminology students.
