MEMORANDUM
To:

Senate
?
From: Senate Committee
Agenda and Rules
Subject: Change to Membership:-
?
Date:
?
October 24, 1988
SPCSAB, SUAAC, SGAAC
In response to
.
a request from the Senate Policy Committee on Scholarships, Awards and
Bursaries, the Senate Committee on Agenda and Rules has reviewed the membership of
SPCSAB, SUAAC and the SGAAC. Senate will recall that these three separate Committees were
established at the time of the dissolution of the Senate Committee on Scholarships, Awards
and Bursaries. ?
With the experience gained after the re-structuring, the Senate Policy
Committee on Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries has recommended that the work of all
three Committees would be best served if the Policy Committee were to have two students
included among the members, with one of those being designated as a graduate student and
the other as an undergraduate student. Further, each of these student members on the
Policy Committee should serve as a member of the respective Awards Adjudication
Committee.
It
?
also ?
is
recommended
that the Student Society should name the representatives to these
Committees directly. ?
At the present
time, the Student Society presents the names of the
nominees
to the Senate Nominating
Committee, and these are forwarded to Senate for
election.
In fact, the end result is
that the nominees are elected by acclamation since all
nominations must come
from
?
the ?
Student ?
Society, ?
and ?
therefore ?
the
?
current ?
nomination
procedure only ?
serves to

slow the appointment ?
process.
These recommendations give rise to the following motion:
"That the memberships of the Senate Policy Committee on Scholarships, Awards and
Bursaries, the Senate Undergraduate Awards Adjudication Committee and the Senate
Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee be changed as follows:

The Senate Policy Committee on Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries has
requested that you approve or take to Senate for approval, a slight restructuring of the
memberships of the three committees noted above, with regard to student representatives.
The committee has agreed that the membership of the SPCSAB should include one
graduate student and one undergraduate student, and that the graduate student from the
• ?
Policy Committee also serve on the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, and
that the undergraduate student on the Policy Committee also serve on the Senate
