The outcomes of the meetings are summarized on the attached table.
A total of 111 appeals were heard as compared with 119 in 1986. 1967 was
another busy year for the Senate Appeals Board. All of the 13 meetings were at
least a half-day in length, and many ran for the full dog. In most cases the
students made personal appearances before the Board to support their cases.
One type of appeal, which, while not new, seems to be on the increase, Is that
submitted by a student who Is about to graduate, seeking a retroactive course
drop from a semester early in the student's record. Increasing competition for
graduate school admission, jobs, etc., could be the cause of this increase in
numbers of students wishing to clean up" their transcripts. The Board has
discussed this matter, and has decided that the cases will be considered on their
merits whether or not the motivation for the appeal is a pre-graduation transcript
clean up" or some other reason.
