c1t1
The Undergraduate Program Committee approved the following recommendations for
changes to the calendar which are hereby brought to faculty for approval and we
move:
1]
a) ?
That the prerequisite for Educ. 432-4 Philosophical Issues In Teaching
be changed -
From: "60 hours of credit. EDUC 230 or equivalent or permission of instructor".
To: "60 hours of credit".
Rationale: The present prerequisite makes the course inaccessible to many practising
teachers who have sufficient background to succeed in the course. The removal of the
Education 230 requirement accords with present practices.
b)
?

c) ?
That Educ. 325-3 be revised as follows:
From: Measurement and Evaluation In Teaching
Basic principles of test theory applied to the use of measures in
education; construction and use of classroom tools for measuring
achievement of educational objectives, including observation methods;
standardized tests, overview of contemporary, local and provincial
evaluation programs.
Prerequisite: Educ 220 or equivalent
To: Testing in Schools
This course provides students with an overview of testing procedures
used in the schools.. Students learn how to judge the appropriateness of
testing procedures for a specific student or group of students, to interpret
scores, to discern biases and inadequacies, and to monitor common
abuses of tests. Students have hands-on experiences with a variety of
testing procedures.
Prerequisite: Educ. 220
Rationale:
?
1. ?
The changes in the course reflect the new and different
approaches to curriculum and assessment recently mandated by
the Ministry of Education of this province.
2.
The new title and description are intended to make the course
more relevant to the expressed needs of students.
?
0
3.
The new title and description responds to needs for the in-service
training of teachers expressed by school districts.
4.
The faculty deems testing to be a crucial area of training for
teachers.
5.
At least one school district has requested that this Faculty of
Education institute a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Assessment
and Testing. EDUC 325 would be a required course within such a
PBD.

d) ?
That Educ. 404-0 be revised as follows -
? F9 -2 1
From: Semester on Campus
(Normally taken in the Summer Semester) Prerequisites: EDUC 401 and
402.
Course programming in this semester is designed in consultation with
the Dire'ctor of Undergraduate Programs, faculty members, and the
student's faculty associate to ensure that professional, academic and
certification requirements are satisfied or to satisfy the educational
requirements of designated PDP modules. Students undertake 14 to 18
semester credit hours of studies in Education and/or other faculties.
Note: EDUC 404 is credited toward a B.Ed. degree. Students
completing degrees from the Faculties of Applied Sciences, Arts,
Business Administration or Science may apply credit for EDUC 404
towards that degree.
In order for the Faculty to recommend a student for certification, the
student must achieve in EDUC 404 a GPA at least equivalent to that
required for a degree in the University.
To: Semester on Campus
(Normlly taken in the Summer Semester) Prerequisites: EDUC 401 and

Course programming in this semester is designed in consultation with
the Director of Undergraduate Programs, faculty members, and the
student's faculty associate to ensure that professional, academic and
certification requirements are satisfied. Students undertake 14 to 18
semether credit hours of studies in Educaton and/or other faculties.
Note: EDUC 404 is required for a B.Ed. degree. Students completing
degrees from the Faculties of Applied Sciences, Arts, Business
administration or Science may apply credit for courses undertaken in
EDUC 404 towards that degree. Students taking PDP who already have
degrees, may count appropriate EDUC 404 courses toward a Post
Baccalaureate Diploma.
In order for the Faculty to recommend a student for certification, the
student must achieve in EDUC 404 a GPA at least equivalent to that
required for a degree in the University.
Rationale: This change would reflect that a student may count his/her EDUC 404
semester toward partial fulfillment of a Post Baccalaureate Diploma. It is
not clear to students or academic advisors whether this is an option.
Other changes are editorial.
