RATIONALE:

Currenfly, only three departments in the Facult' of Arts (Oeograhy,
Psychology, and Sociology/Anthropology) have Co-operative Educat on
programs. However, many students from other departrnent.s in the

FACULTY OF ARTS CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMME
IN LIBERAL ARTS
CALENDAR ENTRY
The Co-operative Education Program is available for students who wish to
acquire practical experience in conjunction with their studies in
departments or programs in the Faculty of Arts. The student normally
spends alternate semesters on campus and in paid, study-related jobs.
REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be admitted into the Co-operative Education program in the
Faculty of Arts, istudents must have completed 30 semester hours with a
minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. Prior to admission, all students must
complete the following:
ENGL 099-2 University Writing
or any two 100 Division English Courses and
PHIL 001-3 Critical Thinking
A quantitative course in your area of interest is strongly recommended.
Computer literacy iis an asset. See the Faculty of Arts Co-op Coordinator for
further information.
Major Students:
One course from either set 2 or set 8 of the Liberal Arts Certificate, and
at least 12 hours of required lower division courses in the major program.

Transfer Students:
Transfer students are ordinarily required to spend one semester at SFU
before completing a work semester. College transfer students who have
participated in co-op programs elsewhere may be credited with the
semesters already taken. Those students contemplating transfer to the
Faculty of Arts Co-op program at
SFU should make early contact with an
Admissions Advisor in the Office of the Registrar. -
The following are Liberal Arts Co-op courses which must be completed in
order to obtain Co-op Accreditation on the Bachelor of Arts Degree:
LIBERAL ARTS 101-0

Practicum I
First semester 'of work experience in the Liberal Arts Co-operative
Education program. Pre requi sites: At least 30 semester hours with a
minimum CGPA of
3.00, including ENGL 099-2 and PHIL 001-3. Students
should apply to the Faculty

Arts Co-Op Co-ordinator by the end
of
the
third week
of
the semester preceding the employment semester.
LIBERAL ARTS 201-0 Practicum II
Second semester of work experience in the Liberal Arts Co-operative
Education program.
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Liberal Arts
101-0 and at least 45 semester hours with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
Students should apply to the Faculty of Arts Co-Op Co-ordinator by the end
of the third week
of
the semester preceding the employment
semester.
LIBERAL ARTS 301-0 Practicum III
Third semester of work experience in the Liberal Arts Co-operative
Education program. Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Liberal Arts
201-0 and at least 60 semester hours with a minimum CGPA of
3.00.Students should apply to the Faculty
of
Arts Co-Op Co-ordinator by
the end
of
the third
week
of
the semester . preceding the employment
semester.
LIBERAL ARTS 401-0 Practicum IV
Fourth semester of work experience in the Liberal Arts Co-operative
Education program. Pre-requisites: Successful completion
of Liberal Arts
301-0 and at least 75 semester hours with a minimum CGPA
of 3.00.
Students should apply to the Faculty of Arts Co-Op Co-ordinator by the end
of
the third week
of
the semester preceding the employment semester.
