Targets
At its last meeting on April 5, 1989, the Senate Committee on Academic Planning
approved a motion to have the admission target for new undergraduates this Fall remain
at the same level as was in place last year .... 3000 students. The motion was cautiously
based on funding information available at the time and the student number of 3000
encompassed admission to all programs at SFU, including courses at Harbour Centre,
the Centre for Distance Education and other off-campus programs.
Since the last meeting, we have received further details regarding the specific incentive
funds for access at sites external to SFU. The additional funds, both at the operating as
well as capital levels will now allow us to expand our undergraduate programs at Harbour
Centre and the Centre for Distance Education, and will enable us to initiate courses at the
third and fourth year levels in the Lower Fraser Valley this fall.
We propose therefore to change our admission targets to reflect the expansion of
resources at both on and off-campus sites.
MOTION:
"That SCAP approve and recommend approval to Senate that the
admission target for the fall semester, 1989 be set at 3,400 new students."
