OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE ON ACADEMIC PLANNING
1988
INTRODUCTION
Under Senate rules, the Senate Committee on Academic Planning is required
to submit an annual report. This particular report covers the activities of SCAP
for the calendar year 1988.
As most of the recommendations flowing from SCAP are subsequently
reviewed by Senate, this report presents only highlights of major proposals
considered by the committee and actions or issues stemming therefrom.
ACTIVITIES DURING 1988
February. 1988... .approved in-principle a proposal from the Faculty of
Arts for a Master of Fine Arts Program in Interdisciplinary Fine and
Performing Arts.

March. 1988 ... approved in-principle a proposal from the Faculty of Arts
for a Master of Arts Program In Liberal Studies at SFU Harbour Centre.

Approved and recommended to Senate
(a)
a proposal for a Department of Earth Sciences at SFU.
(b)
procedures for limiting the intake of new undergraduate
students in the Fall Semester, 1988 to 3000 students.
and considered the President's statement of Direction and Intent as
submitted to the Ministry of Advanced Education and Job Training.

Approved and recommended to Senate the Report on Objectives and
Program Development Guidelines for SFU at Harbour Centre and
considered for information a proposal to establish a community
Economic Development Centre at SFU.

that the name of the extended studies diploma be changed to
Post Baccalaureate Diploma.
(b)
intake quotas of 950 and 600 new undergraduates

SCAP also approved and recommended to Senate a large number of
revisions and changes to the existing curriculum from all Faculties.

University Size and approved in-principle a proposal from the Faculty of
Applied Science for a Ph.D program in Engineering Science.
During the course of the year, SCAP also accepted for information verbal
