Action taken
The following actions were taken:
Continuance. Readmission
At the request of the Task Force On University Size, SUAB reviewed policies governing
academic continuance and readmission after a student had been involuntarily withdrawn.
SUAB recommended that:
1) the basic continuance cgpa of 2.0 remain unchanged
2)
academic warning be discontinued and the minimum number of semester hours
be reduced for "required to withdraw" status
3)
students who had been required to withdraw would have their readmission
appeals reviewed by the Senate Appeals Board, and that
a) they would be expected to complete further academic work elsewhere
before submitting their appeals
b) transfer credit for such work would be granted on admission and subject
to a B- minimum grade
These recommendations were approved by Senate for implementation in Fall Semester
1989, except for immediate implementation for Item 3.
SUAB recommended that normally, readmission would be to Summer Semester only, but
this was not supported by Senate.
SUAB recommended to SCUS that the cgpa be calculated on all courses attempted (i.e.,
to end the duplicate credit rule introduced in 1979), and this matter remains with SCUS.
ABE Provincial Diploma
Senate approved a recommendation from SUAB to accept for admission graduates of the
B.C. Adult Basic Education Provincial Diploma, subject to certain conditions. These
conditions require that the courses taken and standards be similar to those of the
Secondary School Graduation Diploma.

SUAB approved a proposal to
grant up to 30 semester hours of transfer credit for certain
BUT two year diplomas in Administration Systems, Financial Management and Tourism
and Marketing Management.
At the end-of-semester review meetings SUAB continued to experience difficulty with
students who were required to withdraw as a result of deferred grades. There is no
means of knowing whether the deferral was student-initiated or resulted from late grading
by the instructor. Students who were in classes in which all the grades were deferred
were generally allowed to continue by SUAB.
