FACULTY OF ARTS
The Department of Political Science, on the recommendation of its
Graduate Programme Committee, proposes to amend the following
calendar provision (p. 243): "The formal course work will include
four one-semester courses of which POL 801 is compulsory. Of the
remaining three, students will be required to choose at least two
from among the core courses in the academic programme, comprising
POL 812, POL 821, POL 830, POL 841, POL 851, and POL 852, and any
one course listed under Political Science graduate courses."
to read: "The formal course work will include four one-semester
course/ of which POL 801 is compulsory. Of the remaining three,
students will be required to choose at least two from any two of
the five fields listed below."
Then, under the heading "Graduate Courses" POL 812, and POL 814
are to be placed under the sub-heading "Political Theory"; POL
S ?
821, POL 822, POL 824 and POL 829 are to be placed under the
sub-heading "Canadian Government and Politics"; POL 830, POL 832,
POL 838,
POL
839,
POL
861,
POL
862,
POL
862, POL 863, and POL 864
are to be placed under the sub-heading "Comparative Government
and Politics"; POL 841,
POL
842 and POL 843 are to be placed
under the sub-heading "International Relations"; POL 841, POL
842, and POL 843 are to be placed under the sub-heading
"International Relations"; and POL 851, POL 852, POL 853, and POL
854 are to be placed under the sub-heading "Public Administration
and Public Policy."
RATIONALE:
The requirement in force now makes it difficult to offer courses
other than the core courses because of the relatively limited
number of faculty members teaching graduate courses'. Yet many, if
not all, of the non-core courses are important and topical ones
in which students have expressed interest. The proposed change
would make it easier to offer these courses on a more regular
basis.
