Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.
Faculty of Business Administration
Minutes of Meeting of December 11, 1990
The sole item of business was a request from CñbOo College., communicated to
The Commitree through Dean Stanley Shapiro, that the name. of the four year
business program degree there be changed from "Bachelor of Business Studies"
to "Bachelor of Business Administration"
The Committee chair, Bob Rogow. informed it that:
(1)
an overvhe1rning m3jority of the students enrolled in the Cariboo program had
requested a chan
g
e (either to "B. Comm." or to "B.B.A,") from "B.B.S."
because of feedback they had gotten, from potential employers and others,
that the BBS designation was less dearly understood by or recognized by
them than the two longer-established ones were.
(2)
this reuest was strongly supported by the business Dean and the President at
Cariboo College.
(3)
what was involved was only a name change. and not any change in the
agreed-upon rules governing such matters as transfers of students between
Kamicops and Burnaby programs and transfer credit for upper division
courses between progrms. With regard to both matters, for example.
Cariboo students would continue to be treated in the same way as upper
level students at U.B.C., U. Vie., or any other university. SFU Registrar
Ron Heath concurs in this interpretation.
After discussion, the following motion was passed unanimously:
"that Senate be asked to approve, a change in the name of the. four year
degree being ottered by Simon Fraser University
I
n
association with
Cariboo College, from "Bachelor of Business Studies" to "Bachelor of
Business A dininistration".
