SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY?
FACULTY OF ARTS
PROPOSAL FOR A BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE PROGRAM TO BE OFFERED IN
CONJUNCTION WITH FRASER VALLEY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE AT FRASER
VALLEY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
This proposal is for a Bachelor of Arts degree to be offered at Fraser Valley College in
conjunction with S.F.U. for a limited period of time. Both institutions will gain by the mutual
respect and broadened collegiality arising from their cooperation in implementing the degree
plan outlined below. It is to be hoped that collaboration between SFU and UCFV in affording
new educational opportunities to the public will continue well beyond the period of any formal
agreements established between them.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The University College of the Fraser Valley offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree based on two
extended minors in cooperation with Simon Fraser University. An extended minor consists of
lower division courses required for an academic major at SFU, and the upper division minor
requirements. Students earning the B.A. Degree at UCFV will be required to do two extended
minors. This program, oriented toward both depth and breadth, is particularly suitable for
students preparing to teach in the B.C. school system.
Upon completion of 60 credits which can be transferred to SFU, students wishing to proceed to
do the B.A. at the University College of the Fraser Valley must make a formal application for
admission.
Requirements for Admission:
1.
Students must have completed 60 credits of university courses which can be transferred to
SFU in order to enter the B.A. Degree program. Applicants must have a minimum Grade
Point Average (GPA) of 2.00.
2.
Applicants who have completed the first 60 credits at another public college in British
Columbia, or at a provincial university, will be accepted on the same basis as students from
the University College of the Fraser Valley.
Note: Students on probation or with an unsatisfactory record at college or university will not
be accepted.
