SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY?
Memorandum
SCUS 91-45
To: Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies
From: Doreen Godwin, Director, Co-operative Education
Date: October 4, 1991
Subject: Revision of Co-op Course Grades
The Co-op Program would like to revise S78-73, Motion
1:4 -
"That work semesters be graded on the
basis of P or W and that no semester
hours of credit be granted for them."
to -
. ?
"That work semesters be graded on the
basis of P. F, or W and that no
semester hours of credit be granted
for them."
Experience with Co-op has shown that certain problem
situations, such as failure to report to the employer;
leaving an employer before the end of term without approval;
unsatisfactory student performance; dismissed with cause; or
an unsatisfactory work report are controlled solely by the
student. A grade of 'F' is needed to indicate the student's
failure to meet any of these requirements for a Co-op
course. The
'W I
grade will continue to be used for problem
situations not solely under the student's control.

SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY
Memorandum
To: Alison Watt, Secretary, Senate Committee on Academic
Planning
From: Doreen Godwin, Director, Co-operative Education
Date: November 18, 1991
Subject: Your memo of 8 November, 1991
Section 3.3 of the Policy and Procedures Manual will
need rewriting to clarify the use of the "fail" grade.
Points 4, 5 and 10 will become the basis for a "fail" grade.
The student will have to have Co-op approval before being
allowed to repeat the course. I cannot imagine approval
being given more than once.
