Vice-President, Academic
Subject: Composition and Terms of Reference Date November 8, 1993
-Presidential Search Committee
At the beginning of the recent Presidential search concerns were raised that the
University would be using a search committee whose composition and terms of
reference were approved by Senate and the Board in 1978 (copy attached). However, it
was felt that there was insufficient time to consider revisions to this document and
that it would be better to bring the document forward for possible revision following
the conclusion of the search.
I have been asked by the Chair of the Board of Governors to propose the
establishment of a joint Senate-Board committee to review the composition and
terms of reference of the Presidential Search Committee. My proposal is as follows:
That Senate recommend to the Board of Governors that a joint ad hoc
committee, consisting of two Senators elected by and from Senate and two
Board members elected by and from the Board, be charged with reviewing the
composition and terms of reference of the Presidential Search Committee.
Any proposed changes would be recommended to both bodies.
