ICRAWFORD, MICEELLE
I
would very
much
like to be one of the students to serve on the ad hoc committee that the Senate Committee to Review
Academic Discipline and Student Conduct Policies is establishing for July 1993.
As a member of the ad hoc committee I would make a valuable contribution to my school and have the opportunity to learn
about the policy making process and the administration of the University. Academic discipline and student conduct are sensitive
issues that are important to students and faculty alike and it is in earnest that I hope to participate in the consideration of the
appropriate policy. I can offer the committee my critical thinking and listening skills, my experience as a student as well as my
experience as a woman in the work force, and a sincere desire to learn and cooperate with others. I am a confident
communicator and I look forward to meeting new people and consulting with faculties and other bodies in the University.
IDEAN, CHARMAINE B.
Assistant Professor, Mathematics and Statistics, SFU (July 1989-present)
Chair of the Mathematics & Statistics Academic Discipline and Appeals Committees (91-93); Undergraduate Studies Committee
Member (91-92); Departmental Tenure Committee Member (90, 92-93); Representative to the Faculty of Arts Curriculum
Committee (92-93).
I am interested in participating in this review of the policies governing academic discipline and student conduct, so that SFU
continues to follow a fair system, which balances strict regulations with guidelines that enable the situation of the individual
student concerned to be taken into consideration.

discipline committees at the departmental level, where I have demonstrated an interest in fair and effective procedures in these
matters.
I have been a member or the senate Committee on Academic Discipline tor we iast year. during mat ume i nave neara many
cases and have put tens of hours into going through the present policy and the draft policies the committee was considering. I
know that I will be of benefit to the Senate Committee to Review Academic Discipline and Student Misconduct.
