CANDIDATE INFORMATION

INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT EXCHANGE COMMITTEE
[TISWANATHAN, K.S.,
Department of Physics
?
I
I'd like to stand for election to the above committee.
?
I believe that I have the
qualifications to be on this committee.
?
I was myself once an International
Graduate Student in the United States and still hold interest in the participation
of international students here at SFU.
?
I'm of the opinion that the presence of
?
international students both at the undergraduate and graduate level locally
would bring about a better level of understanding of other cultures among us.
I'd like to contribute to implementing a successful policy at SFU regarding
students from other countries.
?
My own daughter is now studying at the
Institute of Political Science at Grenoble, France as an exchange student and
have come to appreciate the treatment she receives there from the French
Government. ?
I came to understand that the international students in France
are actually eligible to receive subsidy from the Government of France.
?
I'd like
to learn more about our efforts in promoting exchange of students with other
countries.

IZASLOVE, Jery, Institute for the Humanities
I would like to be nominated, that is volunteer, for membership on the new
Senate Sub-committee for Student International Exchanges.
I initiated, developed and have administered the English department's Exchange
with the University of Giessen, Germany. This is a two-way student exchange
with considerable administrative consequences and I believe I can be of use to
this committee in its new role.
As Director of the Humanities Institute I am involved and will continue to be
involved in developing field schools in Europe and India.
My own scholarly and critical work is in European studies and comparative
literature. I have a sound knowledge of European educational and cultural
institutions of the old, older and new Europe, and have taught in Germany.
I am a charter member of SFU's faculty and have held numerous administrative
positions at SFU, including chair of English, advisor in Student Advice, and Chair
and member of many taskforces on Student Services.
?
I am interested in the
?
welfare of students, and in expanding our exchange relationships.
