Action undertaken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies (SCUS Reference
94-10) and the Senate Committee on Academic Planning (SCAP 94-57) gives rise to the
following motion:

"that Senate approve and recommend approval to the Board of
Governors the curriculum revisions for the Faculty of Education as set
forth in S.94-69 as follows:

Acting under delegated authority of Senate, SCUS approved the following revision as
detailed in SCUS 94- 10:

In all cases agreement has been reached between the Faculty and the Library in the

Description of Course:
This course deals with theory, curricula and methodologies in drama education. Topics
to be covered will include a selection from the following: aims of drama education;
drama as methodology; role of the teacher in the drama classroom; evaluating students
in drama classes; creative drama; the use of improvisation and storytelling;
incorporating film and video work into drama classses; developing major projects with
students such as choral dramatization, docudrama, anthology,and readers theatre;
introducing scene work, stagecraft, and theatre history to students.

Objectives of the Course:
The objectives of the course are to introduce students to a variety of approaches,
techniques and sources for drama teaching; to acquaint students with pedagogical
issues related to drama teaching; and to have students engage in critical discussion
regarding the theoretical grounding for various approaches to drama education. The
teaching of drama at
all
levels has been mandated by the Ministry of Education and
there is no other course currently existing which deals with drama education. The
course proposed here has been taught as a special topics course for several years.

DESCRIPTION:
This course deals with theory, curricula and methodologies in drama education.
OBJECTIVES:
1.
To introduce students to a variety of approaches, techniques and sources for drama
teaching.
2.
To acquaint students with pedagogical issues related to drama teaching.
3.
To engage in critical discussion regarding the theoretical grounding for drama
education.

teacher; creativity and drama; evaluation; group dynamics; integrating the arts; creative
drama; evaluation; improvisation; storytelling: choral dramatization; docudrama;
