In August, 1995, the term of office of Dr. J
.
M. Munro as Vice-President, Academic and
Provost will conclude. Under procedures established by the Senate and the Board of
Governors, it is now appropriate to commence the search committee process.
Recently, Senate and the Board approved revisions to the membership of the search
committee for the position Vice-President, Research. In view of the arguments
presented at that time, I would recommend that the membership of the search
committee for the Vice-President, Academic and Provost be amended in a similar
manner.
Specifically, the membership would be increased to include representation from two
• ?
groups: i) an employee, elected by and from fulitime employees who are not faculty
members; and ii) the President (or designate) of the SFLJ Alumni Association. This
proposal also allows the President of the Faculty Association and the President of the
Student Society to name a designate. The remainder of the membership and the
terms of reference are unchanged.
It is my intent to forward this motion to the September meeting of the Board of
Governors and subsequently, to the October meeting of the Senate. Under the
University Act, with the approval of Senate, the Board is to establish
procedures for the recommendation and selection of candidates.
Motion: "that the membership and terms of reference of the search committee
for the Vice-President, Academic and Provost as set out in S.94 - 58be
approved".
