Memorandum
From: Ron Heath
Dean of Student Services & Registrar
Subject: Reporting Date - SPCSAB
?
Date: August 26, 1998
Under the current terms of reference, the Senate Policy Committee on Scholarships,
Awards and Bursaries (SPCSAB) is to report yearly, in June, to Senate. In recent years, the
report has come to Senate early in the fall, usually either at the September or October
meeting. The delay in reporting reflects a number of factors.
First, since the financial year ends on April 1, it does take some time to prepare the final
financial reports for the
'previous year. The Committee also requires some time to review
the draft report before the final report is approved for transmittal to Senate and given the
timing necessary to get the report on the Senate agenda, the timeframe during which this
can occur becomes even more constrained.
Second, the May and June period is a very busy one in terms of entrance scholarships at
both the undergraduate and graduate levels. If the Committee must report in June, the
information specific to entrance scholarships will be, of necessity, from the previous year.
SPCSAB would prefer to provide Senate with information that is more current; this is
accommodated with an October reporting date.
It is the recommendation of SPCSAB that, in its Terms of Reference, the reporting date to
Senate be moved from June to October.
