NOTICE OF MOTION
The Rules of Senate require a notice of motion when
a reco l thmendation to amend the

Senate comes forward. This memorandum constitutes th9'Notice of Motion, and this motion will
come forward for
consideration at the next meeting of Senate.
The definition of "faculty member" in the University
Act determines the eligibility of faculty
members to participate in the elections to Senate and the Board of Governors. This definition
states: ?

From time to time for vtious reasons, academic units make consecutive appointments of limited
term faculty. The endesult is
that a person may be employed as a limited term faculty member
for up to

consecutivA years, without ever being granted voting rights in elections.

"The voting rights as outlined in Section 2.3.2 of Policy A 12.05 and
in the Rules of Senate be extended to limited term faculty holding
contiguous appointments of longer than a year."
