FOR INFORMATION
In May 1993, Senate appointed an ad hoc Committee to Review Academic Discipline and Student
Conduct policies. The committee developed a new series of policies and in June 1994, Senate
approved these policies and established two new bodies involved in matters of misconduct, the
University Board on Student Discipline and the Senate Committee on Disciplinary Appeals. These
four policies came into effect in September 1994.
The new policy has been in place for three and a half years, and it is appropriate to have a review
to ensure they are working effectively. The Senate Committee on Agenda and Rules has therefore
approved the establishment of an ad hoc committee to receive input about the policies with a view
to refining these policies. The review committee will have the following terms of reference and

Terms of Reference
1.
To review and update the existing student conduct policies, Tl0.01, Ti0.02, T10.03 and
T10.04.
2.
To consult with Faculties and other appropriate bodies in the University in the process of
the review.
3.
To report to SCAR with recommendations by January 1999.
While the committee is expected to consult widely, advice must be sought from the following
individuals/positions because of their direct responsibilities as specified in the policies: Chair of
SCODA, Coordinator of UBSD, Dean of Student Services and Registrar, Chairs, Director of
Campus Community Services and Ombudspersons.
