Senate Meeting - February 1, 1999
Fletcher, James
Student Senator
Allow me to explain why I wish to serve on the Senate Appeals Board (SAB). I was first
elected to Senate in the spring of 1998. As most of you are aware it takes a few months to
become accustomed to the ways of Senate and its committee structure. But having done
so, I would now like to participate more fully in Senate's activities.
Students need to have confidence that they have a right to fair treatment and due process
at this university. They need to know that any legitimate appeal will be taken seriously.
Regardless of the result, it should be clear that they received a fair and impartial hearing.
Should I be elected to SAB, I am determined to uphold that right.
The adjudicative role of this body demands that its members conduct themselves
impartially, and consider each case on its own merits and in the context of university
policies. Members of the Senate Appeals Board are required to act in a judicious and
non-partisan manner and to keep all matters pertaining to individual cases confidential.
Should I be elected to SAB, I would be certain at all times to do this.
Thank you for your consideration.
James Fletcher, Student Senator
Haynes, Shauna
I am writing to express my interest in running for the vacant undergraduate position on the
Senate Appeals Board. I am a second year student majoring in Political Science and
minoring in French. I am particularly interested in the issues that the Appeals Board deals
with and as an undergraduate student, I feel that I will bring a new perspective to issues
such as withdrawal from the univeristy, graduation eligibility or approval of entry into
programs.
As a second year student living on campus, I interact with other students continually, both
in the residence community and also in the various campus clubs that I am involved in.
Although I have not served on a campus committee yet, I am anxiously looking forward to
this opportunity to contribute and actively participate in the university community. I
believe that my commitment, attendance and active involvement in the committee will
benefit both myself, the university and the Senate Appeals Board.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from
you.
Sincerely,
Shauna Haynes
