CALENDAR ENTRY FOR CO-OP PROGRAM:
ECONOMICS MA CO-OPERATIVE PROGRAM OPTION:
T
he Department of Economics has co-operative education In its graduate
program to allow students to gain work experience that complements
their academic studies.
MA students in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 may apply to
enter the co-op program after satisfactory completion of ECON 802, 805,
835 and 836 or equivalent. They may elect either the traditional co-op
program of two separate work semesters or the co-op internship program
of three consecutive work semesters.
Arranginents for the work semesters are made through the Faculty of
Arts Co-op Coordinator at least one semester in advance. For further
details, students should refer to the Co-operative Education section of
the calendar.
RATIONALE FOR CO-OP PROGRAM:
The Department of Economics feels that the opportunity for graduate
. students to undertake co-operative education allows them to gain work
experience that complements their academic studies. Students who are
currently enrolled in the department's MA program may apply for
admission to this component of the program.
A necessary step to establish the Co-Op Program is to add three non-
credit practicum courses to our list of Graduate Courses. Co-op
students register in these courses when they are on a work-experience
semester. These courses are not open to non-co-op students.
NEW CO-OP COURSES REQUIRED FOR PROGRAM:
Co-operative education integrates work experience and graduate studies.
The following courses consititute the work terms for the MA degree
(Economics) Co-op Option:
Course I. ECON 750: Practicum I: First semester of work experience
in the co-operative education program (0-0-0)
Course II. ECON 751: Practicum II: Second semester of work
experience In the co-operative education program (0-0-0)
