HO, LAWRENCE
Hello one and all, since 1998 I have been fortunate enough to be elected to represent the
students of SFU in Senate and numerous Senate Committees. With this experience I
have gained a respect for the need for communication and mediation. I am open-
minded and will listen to both sides of an argument and find the best answer to any
topic. Being a student myself and understanding a student's needs I can bring in new
different liberal views that can benefit both student and administration.

STEWART, RYAN
Senate Committee on University
Honours (at-large Senator)
The Senate Committee on University Honours plays an important role at the university
as it is responsible for selecting and honouring members of the university and larger
communities for a fairly wide range of commendable activities. It is charged with
designating individuals as officially honoured; in the case of honourary degree
recipients, their noteworthy activities are effectively endorsed by the university, and
taken by the larger community to be reflective of the university's values. I would
• greatly enjoy the opportunity to help select those individuals deserving of honour from
Simon Fraser University, and would do my best to ensure that SFU's commitment to
free and open learning, innovation, and community is reflected in the individuals we
honour.

As a member of the Senate Committee on University Teaching and Learning I would
provide a strong and considered student perspective on desired learning outcomes,
grading policies, and instructional development needs. By actively seeking input from
other students on these issues, I would provide a diverse and reflective picture of 'the
student opinion' on university teaching and learning.
TO, SHEKYAN
Senator since Jan 99 Currently Serving on SCAR
Served on SCAP, SCUB SPCSAB, SUAAC, SCIA, DQAC, ESC, Calendar Committee
SCUH
I have been participating in most convocations in recent years as a member of the
• platform party and as an usher, while witnessing the presentation of honourary degrees
to numerous recipients. In 30 years of SFU history, many faculty members and alumni
are qualified to be recognized for their involvement in SFU. I believe that more
. ?
honourary degrees should be given to those who make contributions to the SFU
community and have close connections with SFU.

SCUTL
As a student, I take teaching evaluation as an important tool to express my opinions on
the quality of the lectures. Supports from the Instructional Media Centre and the
Academic Computing Services are important assistance to students learning. I strive to
improve the quality of teaching and learning at SFU.
VANSTON, CLAIRE
I returned to school at the age of 27, completing my B.A.(hons), psychology in three and
a half years. The following fall I began my MSc (under special arrangements). My
research for this degree addressed the effects of pregnancy on rodent sensorimotor and
spatial performance. I successfully defended my Masters thesis in April of this year and
began my PhD in the beginning of May.
I have been the recipient of two graduate entrance scholarships (C.D. Nelson - 1997-98;
Bert Henry - 2000-01) and a PSG A NSERC Scholarship. I am currently serving as a
voting member on the SFU Childcare Society. I am also a member of the SFU
employment search committee for a new Director of the Animal Care Facility.
My doctoral work will address the effects of pregnancy on cognitive performance in
women, to date research in this area has been extremely sparse.
YAU, DAVID
I am writing in express my interest in representing students in the Senate Committee on
University Teaching and Learning (SCUTL) and Senate Committee on University
Honors (SCUH).
As a third year student double major in Computing Science and Business
Administration, I have volunteered most of my time on SFU community. My
community involvements include Student Liaison in Business Administration Student
Society, Alternate Undergraduate Representative in Senate Committee on Continuing
Studies, and Business Forum Representative in Simon Fraser Student Society.
As the name Senate Committee on University Teaching and Learning imply, both
teaching and learning components are equally important for the success of the
university. If I am elected, I will work with the committee members towards win-win
situation for both teaching staffs and students in SFU.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope you would choose me as undergraduate
student representative for the committees mentioned above.
