Research Ethics Revision - ad hoc Senate committee to review

At Senate on February 7, 2000 it was agreed that the draft research ethics policy be
referred to an ad hoc committee of Senate with the members of SCAR reporting back
to the next meeting of Senate regarding the terms of reference and membership of this
committee.
SCAR endorsed the following

Terms of reference
1. ?
The ad hoc committee shall review
a)
the draft revision prepared by the Task Force,
b)
the submissions made to or at Senate
the Tr-Council Statement
d)
the policy revisions by other universities to encompass the Tr-
Council statement, and
e)
any other submissions the ad hoc committee receives by 11 March
2.

The ad hoc committee may consult individuals or groups inside the
University or external to the University.

The ad hoc committee shall prepare another revision of the Ethics Policy
taking into account the need to have a workable policy and an efficient
procedure consistent with the basic direction of the Tr-Council statement on
Research Ethics.

Timeline
Prepare a report and draft revision by end of March (24 March)
Circulate report to university community in April (1-15 April)
Finalize revision by 27 April and send to May Senate (May 15) for approval.

Membership
SCAR agreed that the members should be Senators and the committee should
be small. The membership is being put together and will be reported to Senate.
