Acting under delegated authority, the Senate Graduate Studies Committee, at its
meeting on November 19, 2001 approved curriculum revisions in the following
departments:

Department of English
i)
Changes to the M.A. Examination Option from a written final examination
to a written final paper which is then defended in oral examination; and
change to Option B - Examination from presented orally at a
departmental symposium to defended in an oral examination
ii)
Change of title ENGL 999 from MA Field Exam to MA Paper or Project

Department of Geography
i)
New courses:
GEOG 615-4 Quaternary Environments
GEOG 620-4 Selected Topics: Economy, Environment and Development
GEOG 640-4 Selected Topics: Social and Urban Geography
ii)
Changes to MA program: Admittance requirements (both CPA and
knowledge base) have been increased and clarified. Required course
offerings have been tightened up. The supervisory committee will now be
selected by the beginning of the second semester. The thesis is allocated
18 credit hours. The deadline for proposal defence has been moved up
and linked to a departmental 'Research Day'.
iii)
Changes to PhD program: Change to allow supervisory committee to
require certain courses if necessary to complete degree requirements.
Membership of the qualifying examination committee revised. Editorial
revisions to wording for Calendar sections on supervisory committee,
qualifying examination, oral examinations, and thesis.
iv)
Changes to course number (from 700 to 600-level), title, description, and
credit hour for the 700-level courses, including deletion of GEOG 710, 720,
738, 756, 780, 781, and 795.

Changes to the membership of the comprehensive examination committee
for the PhD program.

i)
Changes to the Application and Admission requirements with respect to
submission of Graduate Record Examinations for Clinical Program.
ii)
Addition of PSYC 770 as an MA requirement for clinical students.
iii)
Breadth requirements for PhD students reduced by one course.
iv)
Calendar wording revised to clarify PhD requirements for clinical
students and document current practice for PSYC 825 - Intervention
Practicum.
