Annual Report for 2000/01
Senate Library Committee Meetings: June 2000 - June 2001
The Senate Library Committee met five times between June 2000 and June 2001.
Meeting highlights are as follows:
• The Committee heard a brief overview of the student and faculty survey results
from Elaine Fairey, Head of Reference. The SLC subsequently received copies of
the Library Survey Results - Final Report.
• The Committee discussed concerns about electronic reserves and course packs;
and reviewed the current copyright limitations to digital text access.
• The Committee reviewed and supported the proposed expenditure of
?
approximately $107,000 from the Library's endowment income.
• The University Librarian reported at several meetings on the status of the
Collection Allocation Action Plan tasks which were completed by fall 2000.
• The Committee approved a motion strongly supporting the Library's request for ?
an additional $200,000 in funding to pay the salaries of four new positions.
• The Committee discussed the procedure to accommodate Library collection needs
for Canada Research Chairs. It also discussed the issue of departments sharing
the cost of some journal subscriptions.
• The Committee recommended that serials usage data continue to be collected in
2001, and added to previous samples. These data were subsequently made
available from the Library's home page.
• The Library's new Collections Policy Statements were made available online.
These statements apply largely to monographs acquisitions rather than journals.
• The Committee reviewed the Library's draft of its three-year plan and at the end ?
of its discussion passed a motion endorsing the Library's Three-Year Plan for
2001-2004.
