The Senate Committee on University Priorities received proposals from the Faculty of
Business Administration for the establishment of two Specially Funded Professorships
in accordance with Academic Policy A 10.06.
After deliberation, the Senate Committee on University Priorities unanimously
approved both Chairs subject to securing signatories to the Terms of Reference for each
Chair by all parties to the agreement, and in the case of the Weyerhaeuser
Professorship in Change Management, a change in language in the "Purpose of the
Endowment" section of the Terms of Reference to reflect that funding was being used
as a salary supplement.
The Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. Ernie Love, has amended the
Terms of Reference to the satisfaction of the Senate Committee on University Priorities
and the Terms of Reference for the two Chairs are hereby being recommended to
Senate for approval.
MOTION 1:
That Senate approves the Terms of Reference for the Dennis F. Culver Executive
MBA Alumni Professorship as outlined in the attached documentation.
MOTION 2:
That Senate approves the Terms of Reference for the Weyerhaeuser
Professorship in Change Management as outlined in the attached
documentation.

Terms of Reference
The Dennis F. Culver Executive MBA Alumni Professorship will be established at Simon Fraser
University in 2001 through a generous endowment of $300,000 to Simon Fraser University by
SFU's Executive MBA Alumni Association. The endowment is being established in honor of
Dennis F. Culver, distinguished graduate of the first EMBA graduating class, in recognition of
his many contributions to the Faculty of Business Administration, its Executive MBA
Programme, and Simon Fraser University.
Purpose of the Endowment
The purpose of the Dennis F. Culver Executive MBA Alumni Professorship is to promote
excellence in teaching, research and community outreach within the Faculty of Business
Administration at Simon Fraser University. The Professorship will be directed to either the
retention of an existing faculty member or to the attraction
of a new tenure track faculty member
who will maintain and improve the core activities and interests of the EMBA Programme.
Fund Administration
The Dennis F. Culver Executive MBA Alumni Professorship Endowment will be held by Simon
Fraser University. The administrator of the Fund will be the Vice President, Academic or his/her
designate.
The capital of the Endowment Fund will be held in perpetuity with a portion of annual earned
income reinvested in the Endowment to protect its value over time. A portion of annual earned
income (see Endowment Management Policy OP 20) will be used each year to provide a salary
supplement for the incumbent of the Dennis F. Culver Executive MBA Alumni Professorship.
In the event that circumstances make the specified use of the Endowment Fund no longer
practicable or desirable, the Board of Governors at Simon Fraser University is hereby authorized
to
make
any changes it may deem necessary in the terms or use of the Endowment Fund. Such

Dennis F. Culver Executive MBA Alumni Professorship
Appointment to the Dennis F. Culver Executive MBA Alumni Professorship will be for a period
of five

years (renewable) in accordance with University policy. The progress of the EMBA
Alumni Professorship program and its associated activities will be reviewed by the Faculty of
Business Administration and its Executive MBA Alumni Association on a periodic basis.

WEYERHAEUSER PROFESSORSHIP IN CHANGE MANAGEMENT
Terms of Reference
The Weyerhaeuser Professorship in Change Management will be established at Simon Fraser
University in 2001 through a generous donation of $250,000 by the Weyerhaeuser Corporation.
Weyerhaeuser Corporation is an international forest products company with headquarters in the
United States but with extensive investments in Canada, including its ownership of Macmillan
Bloedel Lumber. An international leader in the resource sector, Weyerhaeuser is committed to
strengthening the relationship between industry and university through support of faculty and
students.
Purpose of the Professorship
The purpose of the Weyerhaeuser Professorship in Change Management is to promote excellence
in research and teaching in the area of Change Management. The capital and interest from the
funding available will be used to support research and an initial five

year salary supplement
to attract a new senior tenure track faculty member with demonstrated expertise in the area of the
Management of Change. This position carries with it the normal responsibilities of a faculty
member in the Faculty of Business Administration at Simon Fraser University in accordance
with University policy.
Fund Administration
The Weyerhaeuser Professorship in Change Management Fund will be held by Simon Fraser
University. The administrator of the Fund will be the Vice President, Academic or his/her
designate. These funds will be used to support the teaching, research and community outreach
activities of the Weyerhaeuser Professorship in Change Management.
In the fourth year of this Professorship, Simon Fraser University will request that Weyerhaeuser

consider extending the funding for a further five years based on the success of the program

 
encompassed by the Professorship. Should Weyerhaeuser Corporation agree to extend funding
for a further-five

year period, the appointment may be renewable.
