I am writing to inform you that the Senate Committee on University Priorities has
approved the Terms of Reference and Membership for an ad hoc Committee to
Review and Develop Lifelong Learning Opportunities at SFU at its May 16, 2001
meeting as outlined in document SCUP 01-48.
Membership approved by the Senate Committee for University Priorities for this ad
hoc Committee is as follows:

Ad hoc Committee to Review and Develop ?
Lifelong Learning Opportunities at SFU
Purpose
• To review lifelong learning activities—including programming and instruction, and
the policies that facilitate access to and development of programs—across the
University to ensure that they fulfill the principles set out in the University's Values
and Commitments statement.
• To propose strategies for developing, enhancing and extending learning
opportunities that are lifelong.
Terms of Reference
1.
To review existing lifelong learning graduate and undergraduate credit and non-
credit activities, instructional delivery mechanisms, related policies and
instructional resources.
2.
To examine policies and administrative and program models at other universities.
3.
To consult widely within Simon Fraser University and the community at large in
order to develop strategies to enhance and extend lifelong learning opportunities,
including as they may apply to alumni of SRi programs.
4.
To prepare a Discussion Paper that identifies lifelong learning models for program
and/or organizational growth, responsiveness and change.
5.
To submit a Final Report to SCUP by Spring 2002 for discussion and approval in
principle, and to forward the Report to Senate for information.
6.
The Vice President, Academic will be responsible for implementation.
