BACKGROUND
Enrollment Status Report for 2001102
SFU was funded for
14,140
full-time equivalent (FTE) undergraduates in
2001/02. This included an increase of
230
funded FTE,
52
of which were targeted for
Hi-Tech related courses and 24 for Teacher Education.
Based on actual enrollments for summer, fall, and spring, we surpassed our
funded enrollment target by approximately
352
FTE and have reported an actual
enrollment of
14,492
FTE to the Ministry of Advanced Education.
Enrollment Funding for 2002103
The Provincial Government has asked SFU to increase our funded target by
306 FTE in 2002/03 to 14,446 FTE students. This includes an increase of 136 FTE
students in Computing Science and Engineering Science programs commensurate
with "Double-the-Opportunity" program sponsored by the Province. It also includes
an overall increase in undergraduate enrollment access of 170 FTE students. This
being the case, we need to decrease our overall undergraduate enrollment by
46
FTE in 2002/03 to meet our target.
Admission Targets for 2002103 by Semester. Basis-of Admission. and Faculty
.
?
?
The admission targets for each semester are arrived at by first allowing for
?
spaces required by undergraduates continuing from previous semesters. The
remaining enrollment spaces generally dictate how many new students are to be
admitted to meet the FTE targets of the University and of each Faculty. The
modeling is constrained to ensure that minimum entry GPAs are roughly stable
over the three semesters, that historical proportions of new students by basis of
admission are roughly maintained, and course supply is manageable in each
semester.
Within the Basis-of-Admission targets identified, there are three groups of
students for which separate targets are identified. These are students entering
from B.C. Secondary Schools, transfer students from B.C. Colleges, and a collection
of groups which are labeled as "Other. "Other" includes University Transfer,
Degree Holders, Mature, Out-of-Province Secondary or College Transfer, Visiting,
Special Entry, Concurrent Studies, B.C. GRXI, B.C. Technical School, etc.
For B.C. College transfer students with an Associate Degree, a minimum
GPA of 2.00 is required consistent with Senate policy.
The target for the Faculty of Applied Sciences is the sum of new-to-SFU
students entering each of Computing Science, Communications, Engineering
Science, and Kinesiology. Each School in Applied Sciences also admits many
continuing students into its programs through internal transfers. This is true for
.
?
?
the Faculty of Business as well. The Education intake target is an estimate of the
?
number of new-to-SFU students who will be admitted into the PDP and PBD
programs.
