In accordance with Item 5 of the Terms of Reference for the Senate Committee on

University Priorities:

"To be responsible for the operation of the system of external review of academic units

set out in the Senate Guidelines for External Reviews."

I am writing to advise Senate that I will initiate six external reviews for the 2002/2003

academic year including:

• Engineering Science, Faculty of Applied Sciences

• Resource and Environment Management, Faculty of Applied Sciences

• Contemporary Arts, Faculty of Arts

• Economics, Faculty of Arts (previously deferred)

• Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Arts

• Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science (previously deferred)

For your information, the Canadian Studies Program (Faculty of Arts) external review

has been deferred to the 2006/2007 academic year and at that time will be combined

with the Department of Political Science external review.

The Senate Committee on University Priorities received this information at its April 17,

2002 meeting as document SCUP 02-87.
