Action undertaken by the Senate Library Committee at their meeting of October

22d,

2001 gives

rise to the following motion:

Motion: "that Senate approve that the Dean of Graduate Studies be added as an

ex officio,

voting

member to the Senate Library Committee".

The Dean of Graduate Studies is responsible for a large community of Library patrons with a

unique set of needs for Library services for both their coursework and their academic research.

He/she is also responsible for the dissemination of the products of graduate student research in

the form of theses, project reports and extended essays; these are housed in the Library and are

vetted by the Library's thesis assistance under guidelines developed by the Dean of Graduate

Studies office.

Thus, discussion and decisions by the Senate Library Committee would benefit from input from

the Dean of Graduate Studies.
