Re: ?
Deletion of Public History Program
Enclosed are the necessary forms for deleting the Public History Program. At the meeting
of March 6, the Department of History approved the deletion of this program, which
includes the Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Public History and the Certificate in Public
History and the three core courses, Hist 301, Hist 302, and Hist 303.
We wish to delete this program because of low enrollment and lack of faculty in the
department direct or teach in it.
Would you please put this item on the agenda for consideration of the next F.A.C.C.
meeting?

Deletion of the Public History Program
?
[1
The Department of History has offered a Certificate and Post Baccalaureate
Diploma in Public History for a number of years. While the program did
enjoy high enrollments and strong faculty support in its early years, recent
enrollments, combined with the lack of faculty willing and able to teach the
core courses of the program have brought about a reconsideration of the role
of this program within the department.
The department began phasing out the course offerings when enrollments
became consistently too low to justify the cost of sectional instructors. Those
students with outstanding credentials near completion have been permitted
to complete their programs with course substitutions as required. No new
students have been admitted to the programs in the past two years.
At its meeting of March 6, 2003, the Department of History voted to delete
the Certificate and Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Public History and the
three core courses Hist 301-4-HIST 302-4 and HIST 303-4. We request that
FACC support this decision and permit the deletion of this program.
