Subject: Membership on SCUH
?
Date: October 6,
When the recent review of Senate Committees was concluded and approved by Senate, the
Terms of Reference and membership of SCUll-I (the Senate Committee on University Honours)
were changed. More specifically, the adjudication of a number of awards that were open to
any member of the University community became the responsibility of SCUH. Previously
these awards had been adjudicated by SUAAC (the Senate Undergraduate Awards
Adjudication Committee). It was determined at the time that since these awards were more
widely available than to undergraduate students, the adjudication should occur at a committee
with wider responsibilities than SUAAC. Since SCUH already had responsibility for
Honorary Degrees and other University honours, this seemed the appropriate committee.
The Chair of SPCSAB (the Senate Policy Committee on Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries)
has traditionally been, ex officio, a member of both SUAAC and SGAAC (the Senate Graduate
Awards Adjudication Committee) since these Committees administer the policies created and
approved by the SPCSAB. Since the awards administered by SCUH are also the responsibility
of SPCSAB, it seems appropriate that the Chair of SPCSAB should be included as an ex officio
member of SCUH.
Motion: ?
"that the Chair of the Senate Policy Committee on Scholarships,
Awards and Bursaries be added as an
ex officio
member of SCUH
with voting privileges."
